Heading Out
Your incredible journey starts at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, our home base for the weekend. Traveling out the scenic back roads from the Lodge you will ride about 2 ½ miles along a little traveled road, crossing a quaint bridge spanning one of Canada's pristine rivers. This will soon connect you with Highway 93, the infamous Icefields Parkway, considered to be one of the world's most spectacular mountain highways!
The first rest stop and turnaround point for the half-metric century will be at the picturesque Athabasca Pass lookout, 16 miles from the start of the ride.
The ride continues on to the Mt. Christie overlook where you will find rest stop two, at mile 29. The turnaround point for the metric century will be 2 more miles down the road from the overlook.

Halfway There
The next stop will be the Warden Station at mile 44... please be on your best behavior in case the Warden is there!!
For those taking on the full experience of the Canadian Rockies Challenge, the next rest stop and turnaround point will be at the Mushroom Peak viewing area... unquestionably the most stunning viewing area of the entire ride! This will be at mile 52.5 and give riders 105 miles of pure Canadian challenge and beauty. For those wanting to make the ride an even 100 miles, there will be a 50 mile turnaround marker.

Can You Handle This?
The entire ride takes you over 1800 feet of total climbing. Believe it or not, the grades are not significant and the ride itself has been classified as "moderate" in cycling publications. The first half is generally uphill, which makes for a great return trip heading mostly downhill.
The Icefields Parkway is ideal for cycling. For the most part, there is a very wide shoulder that can easily accommodate 2 riders side, by side. The biggest challenge will be to look out for wildlife, and more importantly, tourists looking for wildlife!!
